the spectacular suburbs of Positano
Even though the centre of Positano is full of nice and interesting things to visit during your tour, the large territory also includes a few nice suburbs: Montepertuso, Nocella and Laurito. Each one of these little suburbs has features which make them unique.
The village of Montepertuso in Positano, for example, is famous for the beauty of its natural arch overlooking the town below. Easily reachable thanks to the new road, it is the ideal place if you want to go trekking in Positano. The little village is connected to the Lattari Mounts thanks to an exciting net of walking paths. If you get there don’t forget to visit the church of Madonna delle Grazie in Montepertuso and have a meal at one of the restaurants or trattoria in the same area.
The village of Nocella in Positano, stands in a strategic position because - particularly in the past - gave the possibility to control a wide stretch of sea and avoid unexpected pirates’ attack. For its favourable position the suburb offers breathtaking views over the Amalfi coast. From Nocelle it is possible to leave on many tours, walking over the medieval bridge overlooking Vallone Porto. If you love walking remember that to get to Positano from Nocelle you need to go down 1.700 steps.
The suburb of Laurito, is an old village on the Amalfi coast, about two kilometres far from the
town centre. Also this
Positanese village was a kind of fortress where people watched over Saracen attacks. Nowadays you can visit the small
church of St Pietro. Its name probably comes form the presence of many bay trees.
